Greece Overview
Greece Town Assessor's Office
The Greece Assessor's Office is at 1 Vince Tofany Blvd, Rochester, NY 14612. Call (585) 225-2000 or (585) 723-2308. You can also email RBaart@greeceny.gov. Under RPTL, the town must keep assessment records up to date and maintain a uniform percentage of value for all properties.
Every property owner has the right to review their assessment. The town offers a three-step challenge process. Step one is an informal hearing, available from January through March. You schedule it by calling, emailing, or writing the office. Step two is the formal Board of Assessment Review (BAR) grievance. File Form RP-524 after May 1 but no later than the fourth Tuesday of May. Step three is Small Claims Court. If the BAR ruling does not go your way, file Form RPTL-730 within 30 days of the final roll. You can get both forms online or at the office.
A residential or commercial property review form is also available if you want to request an informal look before filing anything formal. This is a good first step.

Greece Property Tax Collection
Receiver of Taxes Andrew Conlon collects general property taxes in January. This is an elected position with a four-year term. Tax bills get mailed in early January, and the tax period runs from January 1 through December 31. The Greece tax collection page has full details on rates, deadlines, and payment methods.
Your Greece tax bill includes levies for the Town of Greece, Monroe County, Greece Fire District, Greece Central School District, and any special districts. Unpaid school or water bills get re-levied on the general property tax bill. Keep in mind that the town does not set the rates for the county, fire district, or school district. Those are separate entities with their own budgets. Questions about their specific rates should go to those organizations directly.
In-person payments are accepted at Town Hall, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is a 24-hour night drop box at the Service Mall entrance. Online payments go through the Monroe County website and carry a 3% credit card charge. Phone payments are not accepted.
Note: Property tax funds go to schools, police, fire protection, road work, and municipal services across multiple taxing jurisdictions.
How Greece Property Tax Is Calculated
Property tax in Greece is based on two things: your taxable assessment and the amount each taxing jurisdiction needs to raise. The assessment comes from the market value of comparable home sales in the area. Each jurisdiction builds a budget, subtracts other revenue sources like state aid, sales tax, user fees, and fines, and whatever is left becomes the tax levy. That levy gets divided across the total taxable assessed value of all properties to produce the tax rate.
The town collects on behalf of several autonomous entities. But the town itself only controls the town portion of the rate. If you want to understand why your bill went up, you may need to look at the county, school, and fire district budgets separately.
